Allergies are one thing . . . but being allergic to cold?

allergies to cold

Katie Van Brunt is a talented writer who happens to be allergic to the cold. And as she puts it “the shit hit the fan at my sixth-grade class pool party” Wanting to join her friends to get some pizza she climbed out of the pool and suddenly everything seemed to just freeze, time went into slow-motion.
Tweet “You look disgusting when you get out of the water and nobody wants to get, like, herpes or whatever you have.”
Her mother took her to the dermatologist, who had no idea what could be causing the hives.
Eventually, she found out she had a condition called cold urticaria and physical urticaria.
From sixth grade on she started keeping a few Benadryl with her at all times.
For years she lived in fear that people would withdraw from her if they ever saw her allergies.
